Tribute to John Roos

  • 1 January 1946 – 8 January 2018

John Sinclair Roos passed away in Pretoria at the age of 72 after a stroke.

Since the inception of the Atterbury National Piano Competition in 2011, he has been our patron. The competition was in the privileged position to utilize his long international expertise and insight to uphold and maintain the high standard on which he was so insistent.
During this period he annually acted as continuity adjudicator. He was also responsible for the auditions and selection of prospective candidates. John was a friendly, respected, gracious and humble person who always acted with great diplomacy. It was always a joyful experience to work with him. His interest in the promotion and development of the youth is well known.

Dear John, your passing away leaves us with a great sense of loss and we will miss you. We honour your memory and will go on building upon your ideals. We offer our sincere condolences to the family.
